The team consists of students from NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state unit consists of one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards. All students involved with ties in the voting process are included on the all-state squad.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA
Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.

NCSSIA selects all-state teams for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball on the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University (Division I) levels.

More than 400 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
NCCSIA’s college division all-state women’s soccer team was also released Monday. The organization’s university division all-state squads will be released Tuesday (12/12).

Defender Steven Tupy and striker Lucas Fuentes--both First Team All-USA South Athletic
Conference picks, also represented North Carolina Wesleyan. Tupy helped anchor a Bishops’ defense that allowed only 10 goals all season. Fuentes recorded 14 goals, passed 11 assists and scored four game-winning goals.

Senior Ged Quinn and sophomore Gary Higgins helped Lenoir-Rhyne to a program-best 19 wins. A defender, Quinn was 2006 South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Co-Most Valuable Player and scored three game-winning goals from the back. Higgins, a midfielder, had nine goals, posted a NCCSIA All-State team-high 19 assists and helped the Bears to the SAC title.

Forward Luis Arrieta was the highest scoring nominee on the 2006 ballot. The Belmont Abbey junior tallied 20 goals and dished four assists for 44 points for the 13-5-2 Crusaders. He became Belmont-Abbey’s first Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) Player of the Year this fall.

Lees-McRae’s Berin Boracic made the team as a forward after scoring 34 points (15 goals, 4 assists) for the Bobcats. He joined Arrieta on the First Team All-CVAC side.

Wingate’s Kerrin Sheldon made the team as a defender. He netted seven goals and was named to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® men’s soccer second team and the First Team All-South Atlantic Conference unit.

Junior Robert Fricke of Greensboro earned an all-state midfield slot. A member of the Pride’s USA South champion and NCAA Tournament team, he scored nine goals and two assists.

Cihan Nuhoglu of Pfeiffer and Catawba’s Nathan Zuzga round out the 2006 team. The two senior midfielders also made the college division all-state squad in 2005. Nuhoglu tallied 26 points (9 goals, 8 assists) for the Falcons and earned First Team All-CVAC honors. Zuzga was a four-time All-SAC selection (3-time first team) and helped Catawba to three straight NCAA Division II regional appearances from 2004-06.
