2006 ALL-STATE COLLEGE WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM

Mount Olive, N.C. – Twelve student-athletes, representing eight institutions, make up the fourth annual North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Women’s Soccer Team, it was announced Monday. Methodist heads the all-state team with three players, while Catawba and Mount Olive have tw
o selections apiece.

The squad consists of students from NCAA Division II and Division III colleges and universities throughout the state. North Carolina sports information professionals submitted nominees and NCCSIA members selected the teams. The all-state unit consists of one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards. All students involved with ties in the voting process are included on the all-state squad.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The organization seeks to promote collegiate athletics and student-athletes at all schools. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information. 

NCSSIA selects all-state teams for men's and women's soccer, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball on the College (Division II, III, NAIA) and University (Division I) levels. More than 400 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.

NCCSIA’s college division all-state men’s soccer team was also released Monday. The organization’s university division all-state soccer squads will be released Tuesday (12/12).

Midfielder Chrystal Bradley, forward Whitney Roberson and defender Teresa Futrell helped Methodist to a 16-4-2 mark this fall. The Monarchs won the USA South regular-season title, reached the championship game of the conference tournament and earned a berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship.

 Bradley, a junior from Fairfax, Va., tallied 37 goals and 14 assists for 88 points in 2006. The USA South Conference Player of the Year ranked first in the nation in total goals and points, while finishing second in points per game, third in goals per game and 14th in assists per game. Roberson, a freshman from Kitty Hawk, N.C., and the USA South Rookie of the Year, notched 25 goals and 16 assists this season, placing third in the nation in assists per
game, sixth in points per game and 14th in goals per game. Futrell, a junior from Virginia Beach, Va., helped Methodist hold opponents to 22 goals in 22 matches. All three students were All-USA South Conference first team selections.

Goalkeeper Kathleen Blake and defender Leigh Telzrow helped Catawba to a 12-4-4 record in 2006. The Indians were ranked in the NSCAA Division II Top 25 for much of the season. Blake, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., ranked 22nd in the nation with a 0.82 goals against average. The All-South Atlantic Conference (SAC) second team selection tallied 96 saves and 12 shutouts in 20 matches. Telzrow, a senior from Dallas, Texas, was named to the
Daktronics All-Southeast Region first team and earned All-SAC second team honors. Telzrow and Blake helped Catawba finish among the top 50 in the nation in scoring defense.

Midfielder April Jacobs and defender Kirsten White helped Mount Olive to a 15-7 record in 2006. Jacobs, a junior from Fayetteville, N.C., was named to the 2006 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women’s Soccer All-America first team. Jacobs, who led the nation in assists per game this season, becomes Mount Olive’s first three-time all-state selection. White, a freshman from Woodstock, Ontario, earned All-Southeast Region second team and All-Carolinas-Virginia Athletics Conference (CVAC) first team honors, and was named CVAC Freshman of the Year. White scored 13 goals this season as Mount Olive finished in the top 15 in scoring offense for the third year in a row.

Midfielder Stephanie Leotti helped Belmont Abbey to its second consecutive CVAC women’s soccer championship. Leotti, a sophomore from Rowland Heights, Calif., was an All-CVAC first team selection and earned All-Southeast Region second team honors. Bradford, a freshman from Chesapeake, Va., led Chowan with 23 goals and nine assists for 55 points in 2006. She set a school record for most points in a game.

Midfielder Ashley Cabral helped Greensboro to a second-place finish in the USA South Conference standings with a 6-1-0 mark in conference play. Cabral, a junior from New Haven, Conn., scored 12 goals and was named to the All-USA South First Team.

Forward Jennah Carter was Guilford’s leading scorer for the third consecutive year with 21 goals. Carter, a senior from Orlando, Fla., was named to the 2006 All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference first team and is one of three students this year to repeat as an All-State selection.

Midfielder Maria Reis also makes her second consecutive appearance on the All-State Team as she helped Pfeiffer to a 16-5 mark. Reis, a senior from Akron, Ohio, was named to the Daktronics All-Southeast Region second team and earned All-CVAC first team honors.
