NCCSIA Announces North Carolina All-State College Division Women's Basketball Teams

ecclesweb.jpgSALISBURY, N.C. -- The North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) announced its selections for the 2008-09 College Division All-State Women’s Basketball Team on Wednesday. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA members voted for the all-state teams. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.
       

Founded in 2002, The North Carolina Collegiate Sports InformationAssociation (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionalsfrom NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions fromthe state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is topromote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open toanyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located inNorth Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sportsinformation.
   

NCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) andCollege (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men’s and women’sbasketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, softball and baseball.

Anna Atkinson, of Wingate University, and Dione Eccles (pictured),of Greensboro College, highlights the NCCSIA All-State team as theyrepeat their first team selection from last season. The other repeatselection is Amber Holt, of Lenoir-Rhyne University, a second teampick, who also earned second team honors as a freshman in 2007.

Atkinson, a two-time South Atlantic Conference Player of the Yearat Wingate, led the league in assists (6.6) and steals (3.5) whileaveraging 16.3 points a contest. She was a named an honorable mentionAll-American by the WBCA.

Eccles was the 2009 USA South Player of the Year, averaging 18.5points and 6.7 rebounds a contest. She was an all-region pick byD3hoops.com after leading Greensboro to a school-record 27 wins.

Esty Flores was named Player of the Year in Conference Carolinas asshe helped Barton to a regular-season title. The All-Southeast Regionselection led the league in both scoring (20.5) and steals (2.5).

Marissa Hudley averaged 17.6 points and 6.9 rebounds a contest forQueens in grabbing all-conference honors. The 2008 league Freshman ofthe Year was also named an All-Southeast Region performer.

Wendy Stywalt helped Johnson C. Smith to the CentralIntercollegiate Athletic Association Championship and a berth in theNCAA II Tournament. She was a first team All-CIAA pick, averaging 17.7points and seven rebounds a contest.
   

Jasmine Whitby was an All-Conference Carolinas selection as shehelped Mount Olive to the league tournament final. The All-SoutheastRegion pick averaged 15.8 points and 8.3 rebounds a game.

The second team consists of Holt, Demetria Bell, of Johnson C.Smith, Dezzire Gilliard, of Methodist, Brittany Higgins, of Catawba,and JaToya Kemp, of UNC Pembroke.
