DURHAM, N.C. -- Twelve student-athletes comprise the 2005-06 North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State Men's Basketball Teams released on Monday.
The team consists of non-NCAA Division I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. Nominees were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA members voted
for the all-state teams.
The All-State basketball teams include a five-player first-team, as well as a five-player second team (plus those involved in ties). Teams are selected for men and women in both the college (Division II, III and NAIA) and university (NCAA Division I) divisions.
The 2005-06 NCCSIA men's basketball college division all-state first team is headed by three conference players of the year - Barton College junior point guard Anthony Atkinson, Mars Hill College senior guard Walt Baxley, and Greensboro College senior guard Steve Berg - along with a pair of Saint Augustine's College Falcons - junior guard
Antonio Fitzgerald and junior forward Nicholas King.
The second team consists of three repeat all-state honorees, including Chowan College junior guard Trayvon Lathan and a pair of Mount Olive College Trojans - junior guard Elton Coffield and senior guard Victor Young. Rounding out the second team is Wingate University sophomore forward Sean Barnette, Pfeiffer University junior guard DeMario Grier, Guilford College sophomore center Ben Strong, and Saint Augustine's junior forward Claude Neeley, the third 2006 all-state member for the Falcons.
Founded in 2002, the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools.
Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information. NCSSIA selects all-state teams in the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions for men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball and baseball.

Atkinson, a junior point guard from Wilson, N.C., averaged 18.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.6 steals per contest in leading Barton College to the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference (CVAC) regular-season and tournament titles, the NCAA Division II East Region championship and a school-record 28-4 overall mark. Along the way he garnered recognition as the CVAC Player of the Year and the CVAC Tournament Most Valuable Player, and was voted to the All-CVAC First Team and the NCAA Division II All-East Region Team.
Baxley, a senior guard from Winston-Salem, N.C., was crowned 2006 South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and NCAA Division II Daktronics, Inc. First Team All-America as the second-leading scorer in
the Division II ranks, averaging 28.1 points per contest for Mars Hill College. A two-time First Team All-SAC honoree, Baxley broke the school record for three-point field goals this season with 78 and is the
school's seventh all-time leading scorer with 1,655 career points in three seasons.
Berg, a senior guard from Ocala, Fla., was chosen USA South Player of the Year and NABC All-South Region First Team after averaging 18.6 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game for Greensboro College. Berg, who shot 44 percent from long range this season, set a school record with eight three-pointers against
Christopher Newport on Feb. 17. Fitzgerald, a junior guard from Danville, Va., topped the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and ranked 10th in NCAA Division II in scoring with an average of 22.2 points per contest.
An All-CIAA selection, Fitzgerald was also the league's third-best playmaker with 4.9 assists per game, while adding 5.5 rebounds per outing for Saint Augustine's College. King, a junior forward from Philadelphia, Pa., claimed All-CIAA recognition after finishing among the top 10 leaders of the CIAA in eight statistical categories. King led the conference with 82 three-point field goals and ranked second in scoring with 20.1 points
per contest, while also contributing 7.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.2 blocked shots per game with a 43.2 percent shooting accuracy from behind the arc.
