Charlotte, N.C. – Wingate’s volleyball players wrapped up three of the six spots on the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association’s 2009 All-State Volleyball Team, college division. The remaining three spots were filled by student-athletes from three other institutions.
The Wingate Bulldogs three award winners include sophomore setter Liz Willis, a Daktronics Southeast Region Second Team player, junior outside hitter Lauren Billo, an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-American honorable mention player and a Daktronics Southeast Region First Team member, and last but not least junior middle hitter/blocker Stormi Gale. Gale (pictured) has amassed numerous awards from the 2009 season including AVCA All-American Third Team, South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year and the Daktronics Southeast Region Player of the Year and First Team member.
Rounding out 2009 NCCSIA squad is junior outside hitter Melissa Ritter from Barton, senior middle hitter/blocker Brittany Insley of N.C. Wesleyan and senior defensive specialist Mai Zou Lo from Catawba. Ritter joined the Wingate players as a member of the Daktronics Southeast Region Second Team and was a First Team All-Conference selection for Conference Carolinas. Insley is a four-time USA South Atlantic Conference All-Conference selection and Lo earned AVCA First Team All-Southeast Region honors.

Founded in 2002, NCCSIA is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 500 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.
