Charlotte, N.C.- A trio of players from Charlotte and UNC Greensboro, which won 16 and 13 matches respectively in 2009, comprise the 11-member North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) University Division All-State women’s soccer team released today. The team, which is the sixth named by NCCSIA, includes four players, including all three from Charlotte, who appeared on a previous squad. Davidson senior Kyri-Bye Nagel (pictured) is a three-time All-NCCSIA selection.
Founded in 2002, NCCSIA
is comprised of sports information professionals from North Carolina’s
NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent institutions for the
purpose of promoting college athletics in the state. Membership is open
to anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located
in North Carolina whose responsibilities include sports
information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in the university (NCAA Division I) and college (Division II, III, NAIA, NCCAA) divisions for women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and baseball. Over 500 student-athletes have been recognized on all-state teams since 2003.

Charlotte’s Lauren Brown returns to the squad after being named the keeper to the 2007 squad. She is an All-Atlantic 10 Conference second-team member and led the 49ers defense that recorded 13 shutouts and held three other foes to just one goal scored. She is the school-record holder for career goals against average (0.90) and shutouts (26). She gave up 16 goals and recorded 67 saves in 21 matches this season.
Defender Amanda Flink was instrumental for the success of Davidson’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament as she netted the game-winning goal in double overtime against College of Charleston in the Southern Conference Finals, earning MVP honors of the tournament. She is a second-team All-SoCon team member and tied for third on the squad with three goals and six points, tying her career-high. The Wildcats posted eight shutouts, logging a pair in the SoCon Tournament.
UNC Greensboro captain Lauren Lopez is one of four seniors on the NCCSIA squad and one of ten national finalists for the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award this season. She was a Lowe’s second-team All-American and repeated as a first-team member of the All-SoCon team after earning second-team honors one time previously. She also is a second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District III selection this season and was a third-team NSCAA Scholar all-region pick and third-team Soccer Buzz all-region team member last season. On the field, she scored a goal and assisted on three others, but in the classroom Lopez has been named to the Chancellor’s List every eligible semester and has been on the Dean’s List every semester of her career.
Elizabeth Palmer is one of two freshmen on the NCCSIA squad named in 2009. The Williamsburg, Va. native was a huge part of an Elon team that put together seven shutouts, the most in ten seasons. She led the league with 11 assists from her defender position. The Phoenix put together a school-record 7-3-1 mark in the SoCon and a 0.71 goals against average, good enough for second-lowest in the league.
Charlotte’s Hailey Beam is the second-leading scorer on the 2009 NCCSIA squad, putting 10 balls in the back of the net while assisting on 10 others for 30 points on the season. She repeated on the TopDrawerSoccer.com All-American list and was named the Women’s Soccer Midfielder of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year in the Atlantic 10 in 2009.
Jenn Partenheimer was a First-Team All-Southern Conference member and is one of five juniors on the NCCSIA squad in 2009. She scored the game-winning goal versus College of Charleston on October 23 to put the Spartans back on top of the league standings. The team captain also assisted on game-winning goals over Virginia Commomwealth and the title-clinching match over Elon as part of her three goals and assists on the season. She helped to get UNC Greensboro to the SoCon regular-season title, the third for her and fourth in a row for the school.
Megan Novak scored five goals, including a team-best three game-winning shots, all recorded on the road, and assisted on another pair of goals to lead UNC Wilmington to its first Colonial Athletic Association Tournament title, earning its first NCAA Tournament appearance. She scored back-to-back game-winning goals on the road in one week, at James Madison and Virginia Commomwealth, to earn league Co-Player of the Week. Her 12 points were second on the squad.
Bailey Wilcox earned a Second-Team All-Conference USA selection after scoring a team-best seven goals and adding an assist for East Carolina this season. She scored the lone goal in the Pirates’ 1-0 victory versus Old Dominion, and assisted on the score in a 1-0 win against Gardner-Webb for her first career helper. The junior put 21 of her 31 shot attempts on goal for the season and logged the second-most points on the team, tallying the eighth-most goals in the conference.
Forward Kyri Bye-Nagel makes it three-straight appearances on the squad after her senior season at Davidson, where the senior scored eight goals and logged an additional five assists to lead the team in scoring for the third-straight season in aiding the Wildcats each the program’s first trip to the NCAA Tournament. She also made the First-Team All-SoCon squad for the third-straight season after finishing fourth in the league in goals and points. She recorded her second career hat trick in a 4-2 win at Chattanooga and tied for team lead with three game-winning goals on the season.
The lone freshman forward on the team, Tabitha Padgett, registered 19 points as the Southern Conference Co-Conference Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year. She led the league with five game-winning goals, including the lone goal in a 1-0 win at No. 11 Duke and the solo score in a 1-0 win over Elon to clinch the program’s fourth-straight SoCon title. Her eight goals led the team, which included five goals in a span of six games midway through the season. Two of her three assists game in a 3-1 win against Appalachian State.
Charlotte junior Whitney Weinraub rounds out the squad and leads this list with 32 points on 13 goals and six assists for the 49ers. She repeated on the NCCSIA All-State team, and also won back-to-back Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year awards. She led the A-10 in goals and points, logging the fourth-most goals in Charlotte program history. She scored a pair of goals against three opponents this season, two of those coming in conference matches against Fordham and Richmond.
